Thoughout the pilot year, Musicate musicians have been
delivering a series of world music workshops covering a wide
variety of musical styles and cultures.
During the interactive workshops, the children not only got to
learn to play some of the instrument but also had the opportunity
to learn about the different culture of the country they were
working with.
Each school received two Latin American workshops exploring the
rhythms and sounds of Samba! Armed with our full set of Latin
American percussion, children had the opportunity to learn about
Latin American culture and the carnival atmosphere! Each group
learnt two standard Samba bateria pieces, which were performed at
the end of each session.
During the African Drumming workshops, Musicate musician Andy Mason
guided children through an interactive workshop exploring the
sounds and culture off West African music. A similar format was
used in the other world music workshops exploring African Drumming,
Indian and Gospel music in each set of workshops.
