Musicate has held several instrumental tasters, designed as an introduction to the instrumental tuition angle of the Music Enhancement Pilot project.
To follow these introductory sessions, we organised a series of series of recruitment evenings for children and parents interested in learning to play a musical instrument. Musicate musicians were on hand to provide children and parents with expert advice on a variety of issues from a child's physical suitability to a particular instrument to practice supervision and maintenance. Children also had the opportunity to try out instruments provided by County Music Supplies, a partner in the music enhancement project.
At the end of the evening, and with the parental consent forms complete, children were able then able to receive instrumental tuition in school!
Musicate has a policy of providing performance-based instrumental provision, getting children involved in ensemble music making at the earliest possible stage with the formation of one-note bands! quintets, quartets and other ensembles of every capacity possible - including a teachers and parents band on the horizon…..
Musicate also puts a strong emphasis on the sustainability of the instrumental teaching angle of the project and we are constantly experimenting with new teaching and learning strategies to relate the childrens learning of their instrument to the national curriculum and their own personal experiences with music.
