Telford Youth Ensembles

Ensemble playing is a very important part of a childs musical development.  It is playing with others and enjoying music as part of a group that is the main reason children continue to practice and learn an instrument.  Giving children the opportunity to perform together is one of the main aims of the project.  For this reason, Musicate have commissioned 3 new pieces of music, that have all had their premieres performed in high profile and exciting locations and to audiences of no less than 500!

Now there are 230 young people learning instruments with the Musicate teaching staff, ensembles in schools are already being formed.  Sometimes this happens as an idea from the Musicate teacher, but mostly we have found that the chidren themselves are getting together to practice at break times and lunchtimes, such is the enthusiasm and commitment to playing an instrument in the pilot schools.

We hope that as a result of this, Musicate and the Borough of Telford and Wrekin will start to develop its own music centre and encourage children learning instruments to attend a local centre for music in the near future.

Musicate will continue to commission new works that bring together children across the Borough, as we recognise the importance of playing with others from a very early stage in a childs musical development.
