Telford Music Enhancement

The Telford Music Enhancement Pilot Project is a ground breaking experiment to bring musical activities to the Borough of Telford and Wrekin, through a concentrated series of workshops, classroom support and instrumental provision.  The model of delivery is unique in the UK in that it involves every child enrolled in the school hearing professional musicians perform and participating in a series of high quality and varied music workshops, thus relating to the government music manifesto, of which Musicate is a signatory.
Since 2004, as part of series of new cultural initiatives in the Borough of Telford & Wrekin, Musicate were consulted to design and deliver a new pilot primary school music enhancement project providing a wide range of musical support and activities across 5 primary schools in the area.

The first phase of the project consisted of interactive musical taster sessions for the whole school, a series of world music workshops, vocal days and classroom support.  These activities took place over the first academic year of the pilot project in order to give all pupils enrolled in the schools the experience of not only hearing music but also taking part in musical activities.  The benefits of a first year that gives a school a buzz about music has been shown by the number of children wishing to take up instruments in the second phase of the project.

The second phase consists of the same input of workshop days as the first year with equal support to teachers delivering the national curriculum, but with the addition of instrumental tuition offered to those chidren and families that would like to learn (parents and carers were consulted at the recruitment stages  - please click here to read more about the recruitment sessions)
