In May 2005, schools participating in the Telford Music
Enhancement Project were invited to perform at the National
Association of Headteachers conference, held at the Telford
International Centre over the May bank holiday weekend. Children
from Woodside Junior School, Randlay Primary School, Muxton Primary
School and St. George's Primary School all took part in two
exciting world premiere performances of brand new music!
The first performance took place at the conference dinner, where we
performed 'Phi and the Rhythm of Life' - a piece by Musicate
composer Martin Riley written for percussion duo and classroom
percussion instruments. If you like Maths, you may be interested to
know that the piece was actually based on the numbers that appear
in the Fibonacci Series!
The second conference performance had the honour of closing the
major conference with 'The Layman's Guide to Telford' a piece
describing Telford's Industrial past up to the present day written
by Musicate composer Gareth Jones. The piece was written for
children's choir, two narrators and small orchestra.
The performances were really well received by the audience and the
performers were fantastic considering they were performing to an
audience of 700 headteachers!
