Musicate musicians, Richard Shrewsbury, Louis Clark and Peter Dixon delivered a really enjoyable week of music making with students of schools from across the West Midlands, all with varying levels of experience.
The primary aims were to produce a CD recording of the pupils work to raise asiprations and increase the awareness of the diversity of opportuntities available through UCE Birmingham Conservatoire.
The group of 11 students worked with the first-class music technology, recording and rehearsal facilities at the Conservatoire, to each produce a piece of their own. They also formed a soul band which performed a few popular tracks and one original number to proud parents and carers on the Friday afternoon! Musicate musicians facilitated the sharing of skills between the group from those with Grade 8 formal qualifications to those with lots of performing experience and enthusiasm, with the end results speaking for themsleves.
The summer school was the first time UCE Birmingham ran a subject specific week for young people and it was a resounding success. It is hoped that the partnership between Musicate and the Marketing and Education Liaison (MELD) department at UCE will grow from a really exciting start!
