Musicate instrumental taster sessions have been tried and tested
in many schools across the country. The sessions last usually
one or one and a half hours with a group of about 15 musicians
ranging from Jazz quartet through to string quartet. The
sessions introduce all elements of the national curriculum through
lively presentation and some games and activities that the children
can enjoy. Usually schools choose to have three presenations
/ performances throughout the day so that the maximum number of
children benefit from hearing all of the different
instruments. These taster sessions can give a whole school
population the inspiration and enthusiasm to want to explore music
more. Popular repertoire is chosen so that the children have
some reference of the being played as well as music from many
different genres. The taster sessions usually end with a
party atmosphere where children and teachers are singing and
clapping along!
