Director
Richard Shrewsbury is an experienced Education Manager and
Professional Musician. He has delivered and managed projects for
the Association of European Conservatoires, Birmingham
Conservatoire, UCE and Musicate. Interested in the links
between formal and non-formal music, Richard was Project Researcher
for a European Commission Funded Project looking at cultural
diversity in music education.
Composer, Workshop Leader
Iain Masson is a freelance composer and workshop leader based in the West Midlands. He has delivered projects and activities for a number of organisations including Creative Partnerships, Halle Orchestra Education, Sound It Out, Diaspora Arts and Musicate. He was the winner of the Alan Rawsthorne Prize for Composition in 2005, and has had music broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and in venues such as the Bridgewater Hall.
African and Caribbean Percussionist, Workshop Leader
Andy Mason is a freelance music teacher and vastly experienced workshop leader specialising in West African and Caribbean
percussion. Andy has
travelled extensively to The Gambia and Senegal, Cuba, the Caribbean and South
America picking up the sounds and cultures of the world.
Flautist - World Musician
Lisa has had a varied musical career in both education and
performance and has worked with the Birmingham music Service as a
woodwind tutor for many years. In recent years she has
specialised on the Indian flute and has spent almost two years living
and studying in Mumbai, India. Lisa has led workshops with
SAMPAD, Sound it Out and the MAC.
World Musician - Gospel, African, Blues, Traditional Caribbean, Traditional American
Playwright, musician, actor and theatre director Milton has been
an artist for more than forty years. His experience as an
artist is widely varied and in music his repertoire of world music
includes: traditional Caribbean, African American traditional music
and music from the African experience.

Composer, Arranger, Workshop Leader, Guitar Tutor
Louis Clark graduated with first class honours degree in Composition from Birmingham Conservatoire in 1999, during which time he won the Lyndon Concert Band Composition Award 1998 and the Birmingham Conservatoire Creative Studies Competition 1999.
He has lectured in music at Coventry University and has been a teacher of composition, harmony/theory, keyboards, guitar and bass guitar since 1995 at Stratford college, Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) and Bearwood Guitar School. Since 2003, Louis has been a regular workshop leader in schools throughout the country for Musicate.

Composer and Workshop Leader
Martin has been working as a professional composer and educator for the past 13 years. His array of work includes performances of his music by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, numerous pop arrangements and performances, and recent tours with Hayley Westerna. Martin regularly delivers education projects for Musicate as well as recently being commissioned by Musicate to write a piece that was performed at the National Association of Headteachers Conference 05.
Lizzy Parks has featured on several critically acclaimed releases and
has played at prestigious venues nationwide. When she is not
performing, Lizzy gives vocal workshops with Musicate and coaches
students at the Theatre Of Gifted Youth, Telford. She graduated from
Birmingham Conservatoire in June 2003 with a BMus(Hons) Jazz degree in
voice, saxophone and composition.
Composer and Music Technologist
John Wesley Barker has recently joined the team of Musicate staff to deliver music technology support and is acting as a consultant for the new Musicate music technology support service. Read more about him by clicking on his name above!
Specialist African and South American percussionist, animateur
Mark is an
accomplished percussionist, having been performing and recording
for several years. Specialising in African and South American
percussion he has worked as a session musician for groups and
projects including Angel Lee, The Capoeira Twins, Disfunction
Records, Different Drummer and Guidance.
In addition to Mark's work as a performer, he runs regular
workshops for young people and corporate clients working on core
skills, personal development, team working and
communication.

Jazz specialist, saxophonist, animateur
Ed Johnston graduated from Birmingham
Conservatoire in 2003, gaining a BMus(Hons) degree in Jazz. He has played numerous prestigious
gigs with various ensembles in recent years, most recently at the 2005 Cheltenham
International Jazz Festival with both Sid Peacocks Surge and Steve
Tromans’ Howl Band both of which received great reviews.
Ed has been been actively involved in music education for five years, running jazz workshops and jam
sessions at the Midlands Arts Centre and Birmingham Conservatoire, in addition to his work as a clarinet/saxophone tutor. Ed has worked as a Musicate animateur since March 2005.
Gospel and Vocal Workshop Leader
Celia is a full time member of Black Voices an internationally
Birmingham based "a acapella" womens vocal group as well as
being a frequent gospel workshop leader for Musicate.
Composer and Clarinet Teacher
Gareth Jones is a Birmingham based musician who completed his Postgraduate studies on the Composition for Screen course at the Royal College of Music, studying with Joseph Horowitz. During his studies at the RCM and previously at Birmingham Conservatoire Gareth won several prizes including the Graduation Concert Composition Competition resulting in a performance by the Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra, the Creative Studies Award and the Graduation Fanfare competition where his brass fanfare is performed regularly each year in Symphony Hall, Birmingham.
